DESCRIPTION: EPW - Lepine a Paris, cylinder escapement, 46mm, likely 16K gold (tested 14K or greater) OF original case with gray guilloche enamel rear, pearl borders to bezel and rear perimeter, signed gilt cuvette bearing attributes and with internal shutter for setting aperture, white enamel dial with combination Roman and Arabic numerals, KWKS, cylinder escapement, standing barrel, gilt mvt, s#5560 to cuvette. Gross weight of assembled watch 41.4 dwt (64.5 g). An elegant and very appealing example of this esteemed maker's work, our consignor notes this watch as dating circa 1792 and listed in Adolphe Chapiro's 1988 "Jean-Antoine Lepine Horloger (1720-1814)" book.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, few fine scratches, darkening to portion of balance wheel and portions of train wheels; dial with light perimeter hls between 5:30 and 7; fair hands, hour missing a small segment at its base, minute with evident solder toward perimeter holding a replacement tip of differing color; case shows very little wear, no dents or dings, guilloche enamel is fully intact with fine scratches to surface, pearl borders are fully intact, bottom hinge is missing one end-cap; bow pivots freely; good glass crystal.
